FUNDING
We depend on support from foundations, businesses, tribes, individuals and organizations. Many tribes have budgets for educational opportunities. We welcome in-kind support of food and lodging, reimbursement for travel and fee for services.
Please send a short letter to The Storyscape Project with name and contact information and your interest in learning ethnographic audio recording. Or contact Phil Klasky by phone (415) 752-8678 or email at pklasky@igc.org, or Melissa Nelson by phone (415) 561-6594 or email at mknelson@igc.org.

ETHNOGRAPHIC AUDIO RECORDING TRAINING PROGRAM WORKSHOPS
|
|
Teaches the basic concepts and methods of ethnographic recording. Introduction to the equipment and duplication processes in a two to four hour workshop. Tailored for conferences and other gatherings. Discussion of intellectual and cultural property rights and copyrights, ethics and ethnography.
Two to five day field workshops on location. Hands-on training with audio recording equipment, record keeping, interview techniques and community participation. Discussion of intellectual and cultural property rights and copyrights, ethics and ethnography.
Participants who have completed the Basic Training will have an opportunity to submit a proposal for a project to conduct ethnographic recordings on their own reservation with culture bearers of their own choice. We provide training and proposal templates for the design of the recording projects. We then provide technical assistance and consultation tailored to the specific needs of the project. In addition, we will endeavor to provide audio recording equipment for the proposed project and leave it with the ethnographer for future recordings.

The Storyscape Project is dedicated to the preservation of indigenous stories, songs, language and lands.
In order to assist tribes and their communities in the preservation of their own cultural treasures, we offer trainings in ethnographic audio recording on location for indigenous participants interested in recording their own culture bearers. We provide follow-up to the trainings with technical assistance on projects designed by workshop participants recording culture bearers of their choice. With foundation and other sources of support, we plan to give qualified workshop participants audio recording equipment to keep for their own use.
